What's Playing in the Studio

My friend Emma just posted a link to this music video on Facebook. I think this version of Bastille's Pompeii is better than the original.

Love that it was filmed in the British Museum.

The Exchange

I'm very happy to annouce that Bow Peep is taking part in the organ donor exchange that starts tomorrow. Some great desgners have donated items to The Exchange, all you need to do is sighn up as an organ donor at the event.

I have been an organ donor for a while and I think everyone should be a donor. At the end of 2011 a family member was in hospital and spent some time in ICU, I saw first hand how important it is to become an organ donor. Most of the people in the ward had just had transplants and I chatted to one lady who had received a kidney, it was really amazing to hear how much her quality of life had changed after receiving a transplant.

Long weekend in Joberg

I just got back from a long weekend in Joberg and Pretoria. My friend Lisa and I went for a friends wedding on Sunday and decided to go a few days before and have some fun in Joberg (and some work...Friday was a work day). On Friday I had breakfast at Wolves, I have been wanting to visit Wolves for ages. Its a really cool spot and the breakfast was great. My muesli came in a jar!

 Also finally got to try Paul's Homemade Ice Cream...delicious!

 Did some fabric shopping and visited Juta Street which is a very cool spot. 

 We went out for supper on Friday evening and laded up at a place called Great Dane, I loved how they had these cool lampshades outside.

 On Saturday morning I quickly popped into the Oriental Plaza and then spent the rest of the morning at the Neighbourgoods Market. Landed up bumping into loads of friends. Its pretty much the same as the Cape Town version but with better food and more places to sit. It was great to see my earrings at the Lo stall.

 We then drove to Pretoria and met up with school friends at a very cool bakery called the Lucky Bread co. in Brooklyn Mall.

 I did some more fabric shopping early on Sunday morning before the wedding.

Joberg is growing on me, I will definitely be back soon!

Get Pickled

Last Friday I was invited to an event hosted by Peppadew South Africa at Dear Me. Now when I got the invitation it said that they where launching a range of products that didn't involve Piquante peppers, I expected some pickled onions on a cocktail stick. Wow was I wrong. We where treated to a four course lunch that incorporated new range of pickles.

It was really surprised to see how the pickles could be used so subtly in the various dishes. We where sent home with a goodie bag of the new flavors which have already been put to use in my kitchen. I found the hot jalapeno's a bit too hot for my taste but then again I did eat one out of the bottle and any jalapeno would be hot without eating it with something else.

This was the menu...it just kept going on and on...

 The picture above is of the pickled onion fish salad, now I'm not a fan of cooked fish, give me sushi any day and I will be happy but I really liked this. It might make me experiment more with fish.

Now that I have a kitchen stocked with pickles, I'm going to start looking for some recipes to use them in.

Back to the market

After taking a bit of a break from markets Bow Peep will be back at the Woodlands Market on Monday evening. I haven't had a stall at a market since December, so its great to get back into them. 

Come and say hi, have some pizza (best pizza in Cape Town) and check out the pretty things on sale.

Its on from 6pm at the Woodlands Eatery.

Some new fabric options

I just uploaded some new fabric options for my button earrings on the online store and Hello Pretty. Some of the colours have been on sale for a while but I haven't had a chance to photograph them properly. Some of the fabrics are brand new. I will hopefully be getting some new fabric very soon as I'm off to Joberg in the next few weeks.

What's playing in the studio

I have decided to start a new blog series called What's Playing in the Studio. I love music and I always have something on while I work so I thought I would share some of the music I listen to. My music taste varies a lot, as you will see over the next few weeks but hopefully you will also enjoy what I am listening to. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions of bands I should check out.
 So for the first music post...

I just downloaded the new Vampire Weekend single called Diane Young. Its been on the radio quite a bit recently. I love Vampire Weekend and can't wait for there new album.

Babylonstoren

I have been waiting for ages to visit Babylonstoren and yesterday I finally took a trip out to the winelands to visit this amazing place. We had lunch at Babel and then after walking around the gardens we then had tea in the greenhouse.

 The food was fantastic and the garden is truly one of the most beautiful places I have been to, its my idea of paradise. Everything served in the restaurant comes from the farm. The attention to detail is amazing and the service was some of the best I have had in South Africa.

Its truly worth the drive out.
